Lump in armpit?!

Question: Ok so I KNOW I need to see a doctor but I'm just really busy this week and next week so I just want to know if anyone has experienced this same thing.

I have ALWAYS had a lump in my left armpit, about the size of a small pea. About a month ago, my arm started to ache and the lump ballooned! It has been the size of a huge grape for about 3 weeks now. When it first started to grow, it was extremely painful, but now it is just tender when touched.

When I lift my arm it is very clearly visible, not red, there is no head (which makes me think it's not an abscess), I tried not shaving for 2 weeks and it didn't help, it is firm (but not hard) and immovable.

I'm only 18 so that's pretty young to get breast cancer so I don't think that's it either!

Any help out there?

it could be an irritated or infected lymph node, or a sebaceous cyst, both are easily dealt with. ...however, you are not to young to have a metastesis occurring with such an anomaly. i would try connecting with an oncologist in your area, for a consultation. he/she can answer whatever questions you have, perform any necessary exams, and help you with treatment to head off future problems. be sure to get the best medical oppinion you can, better safe than sorry. i wish you quick relief and fast recovery!

Humans have several lymph nodes in the armpit area. They can become swollen and painful, especially if there is a blockage in the duct that drains them. Antibiotics usually take care of it - so you really need to see an MD.

that lump is a lymph node and it can become swollen and painful if it is fighting off an infection. it does concern me that it is firm and immovable so because of that i would go get it checked out by a doctor. however, it is not typical of cancer that the lymph node becomes painful. your body is fighting an infection so its worth getting it checked out by a health care professional.

Get it checked out. It may not be cancer, but it may be an infection in your lymph nodes.

I had something similar, but it turned out to be normal, though my mammogram showed a lump (in another place, not related) and it just turned out to be a fibroid.

It sounds like an abscess. An abscess does not always have a head and feels like a firm nodule. Sometimes the abscess is way under the skin and you have to draw out the pus or sometimes have it lanced (cut open) by a doctor. Warm compresses can help bring it to a head. Cancer is usually a painless lump so I suspect an infection versus cancer. Also, it grew very quickly if it is indeed a cancer.

Have you tried grasping both sides between your index and thumb and giving it a good, firm squeeze. Hurts like heck but if it is an abscess, this may cause it to erupt. Watch out though because they can be quite messy.

If it does not go away, see the doctor.

You really need to see a doctor as soon as possible--and remember that doctors can be M.D's or D.O.'s. Especially since it's been going on for 3 weeks already, you shouldn't put it off any longer. I agree that it's probably a lymph node, but you need to find out why it's reacting this way, and make sure that it's not anything serious--even though you're young, those things are possible.

I had this happen to me one time. I had a lump in my armpit, it hurt pretty bad. I was getting ready to go to the doctor and it went away. I had gotten scratched by a cat pretty bad and I am pretty sure I had cat scratch fever. You could have some kind of infection in your lymph nodes. Make a doctor appointment as soon as you can.

I get these lumps from using roll on or stick deodorant. Try using spray.
