It is used because it slows everything down including the brain. Another medicine that can be used along with clonidine is Strattera, non amphetamine for adhd. It does have some bad side effects but they go away in time.

Mind racing is the worst symptom of TS and clonidine should help. Make sure you start with a low dose and work up.

In the U. S., the most frequently prescribed medications are clonidine hydrochloride (Catapres?) and guanfacine (Tenex?), two alpha 2-adrenergic agonists. Clonidine is actually a blood pressure medication that was found to ameliorate tics. Clonidine and guanfacine can generally be taken by individuals who have normal blood pressure. Clonidine is available in tablet and sustained-release (transdermal) patch form. At the present time, guanfacine is not available in patch form.

I do believe that CLONIDINE is the drug of choice for hypertension when it needs to come down quickly.

I do believe that KLONOPIN (trade name) CLONAZEPAM (generic name) is used as an anti-convulsant....(and maybe for tourette).

It is very common in the medical community to mix-up the spelling and/or pronounciation of these 2 very different drugs.

KLONOPIN/CLONAZEPAM:
is a schedule IV narcotic
has a long half-life
tolerance develops
requires weeks for steady state
0.013-0.072 ug/ml for steady state
causes physical and psychological dependence
when stopped abruptly causes withdrawal symptoms
adult maximum daily dose is 20 mg

hope this helps.
