Critical (terminal) pH on abg?!


Question: Ok, Respiratory Folks. I don't have my reference materials where I am; who can remind me what the critical pH is; that is, the pH (on ABG) below which brain death occurs?

Blood pH values compatible with life in mammals are limited to a pH range between 6.8 and 7.8.

7.35-7.4 are around normal range, critical value around 5, but you gotta remember that pH values differ in each system to a degree. These are values for arterial blood:
ACIDOSIS
pH = 1 to 7.40
NEUTRAL
pH = 7.41
ALKALOSIS
pH = 7.42 to 14.0

7.35-7.45 is normal, below is critical
