Question about pain & swelling in feet...not gout, could it be from chemo?!

Question: My mom is currently going thru chemo for stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer that has metasticized to her bones & lymph nodes. she is a non-smoker. about 3 weeks ago she started to have swelling and pain in both legs & feet. she saw her oncologist who diagnosed cellulitis. put her on Cipro. 3 days went by...nothing. still painful & swollen, my dad took her to the ER on Easter morning. THEY said gout. put her on something else. nothing happened! THEN they said it was BOTH! omg, this is sooo frustrating! they admitted her to the hospital for 4 days to administer IV antibiotics. it helped a little bit. now, the pain & swelling is back, and they're stumped. they have NO CLUE what it is! she's seeing her primary dr today, and her oncologist today, later on in the afternoon.
does anyone know what this could possibly be?? i'm scratching my head on this one.

It could be an allergic reaction to the chemo I do not know, only had 31/2 years pre-med. However I would have all possibilities checked out. It could be the onset of diabetic neuropathy. She should have all avenues investigated.

im not sure either neuropathy is what caused my mom feet and legs to swell and hurt really bad

Maybe edema. Maybe the side effects from the drugs that she in. check the side effects of the drugs. But if is puffiness maybe edema and this can be helpful a diuretic. You can use something harmless like watermelon for that.
Sorry about you mom and good luck to you and your family. God bless you all.
Thanks

They gave me lasics in the hospital to relieve water in the system. It depends if she is gaining weight because of water retention.

Its a long process to eliminate this side effect of the chemo. Its more common then people think. It takes rounds of tests, antibiotics and water pills....etc.... anything they can think of to control it. If it isn't controlled, seepage from the swelling can occur. They should have her wrapped in the tight brown elastic stockings to help reduce swelling.

Some chemotherapy drugs can cause fluid retention in the body. This form of cancer swelling is most noticable in the feet, ankles, hands, and face.
Swelling or angioedema may also occur with hives as part of an allergic reaction. It is a vascular reaction that causes an increased ability for fluid in the cells to "leak" into the layers of the skin, resulting in swelling.

Good luck in controlling this.. it takes time and loads of trials, but can be eventually healed.

Could it be a "blood Clot" in her foot causing circulatory problems, therefore causing pain and swelling? That would be my next question to the doc.
Edema is certainly painful sometimes. I had that in my feet. Sometimes just in one.
Is she overweight? If so, edema, and circulatory problems can occur.
Hope they figure it out soon.I'd be going nutso too.

Has she had any lymph nodes remover because it could be Lymphedema. My grandma has a partial mastectomy and all her lymph nodes removed in her left arm and now has gotten an acute case of lymphedema. Lymphedema is when fluid cannot travel through your body where your lymph nodes used to be and the fluid starts retaining in the limbs where it cannot pass through. My grandma has also had it in her legs for many years and they diagnosed it each time as cellulitis or normal fluid retention. I would talk to the chemo doctor right away so if this is the case they can refer her to a lymphedema specialist. It is very important to get this under control because it can result in loss of the limbs
