Bronchitis is an inflammation of the main air passages (bronchi) to your lungs. It causes a cough, shortness of breath and chest tightness. Coughing often brings up yellow or greenish mucus. Usually caused by a virus

The bronchial tubes are the tubes that branch into the lungs. When these tubes become irritated, inflammed or infected they cause Bronchitis.

The infection can either be viral or bacterial and often comes on after a cold.
Docs most oftenly prescribe antibiotics and sometimes cough medicines.

The person may have a low-grade fever (100) and they will have a deep cough. This cough is necessary to clear the tubes of the excess mucos.

While the infection usually clears up in 7-10 days (or sooner), the cough can last for up to a few weeks.
