Question: no, there was not a test for hcv until 1990. they didn't isolate the virus until 1988. before that they called it post transfusion hepatitis because they noticed it was not a or b hepatitis. hepatitis c used to be called non-a, non-b hepatitis.
if your thinking that your mother might of had hcv when you were born, if she is still alive ask her to be tested.

No. The Hepatitis C virus wasn't discovered until 1989. So there was no screening test before then.
The Hepatitis B virus was discovered in 1970. Routine Hep B screening didn't start until the vaccine became available.
