Question: well i learnt this in nursing, you have to wash your hand for as long as it takes you to sing Happy Birthday AT LEAST and in all the right places to actually be doing any good. That means scrub the nails, the thumb often gets left and all bits in between. 1 min is the absolute minimum for this. If you do this properly you can effectively clean them in one hand wash. Interestingly if you over wash your hands you could be hindering the process, and breaking down the integrity of the skin and allowing more germs to harbour so - dont go overboard.

Using regular soap, rub your hands together vigorously for 20 seconds. Nothing more is needed.
