What is hypertension in the heart?!

Question: Hypertension is high blood pressure. The problem is not in your heart but in your blood vessels. The heart is pumping blood but the vessels are not moving it at an equal rate, so pressure builds up. This can happen if you have a build-up of plaque, of cholesterol, or if you are overweight and forcing your heart to work harder.

If you have mild hypertension, your doctor will put you on medication. My doctor put me on Linzopril, which is a combination of Linsinopril and Hydrocholorithiazide ("HCTZ"). Both drugs work to the reduce your blood pressure.

The HCTZ is unique in that it makes you go pee more often. It is an enzyme that triggers a response in your kidneys and tells them not to store as much water. It is something referred to as a diuretic or "water pill". This is so that you will urinate out some of the sodium that is in your system and in the process lower your overall blood pressure. The medication lowers your potassium levels too, so you'll want to regularly eat bananas while taking it. The bananas will also help with your blood pressure.

To prevent high blood pressure, eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, drink more water, exercise regularly and cut out all of the salt in your diet. It's tough, I know, but it's better than a future heart attack or kidney failure.

hypertension:

Hypertension, most commonly referred to as "high blood pressure",HTN or HPN, is a medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated. It was previously referred to as arterial hypertension, but in current usage, the word "hypertension" without a qualifier normally refers to arterial hypertension.

Hypertension is considered to be present when a person's systolic blood pressure is consistently 140 mmHg or greater, and/or their diastolic blood pressure is consistently 90 mmHg or greater.[2] Recently, as of 2003, the Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure[3] has defined blood pressure 120/80 mmHg to 139/89 mmHg as "prehypertension."
