How long after exposure can I get tested for herpes?!

Question: Hey - I am very stressed out, really could use someones help..

Last Friday night I had sex (condom used) with a promiscuous woman. This Tuesday my genital area felt a bit warm, and then today my genitals were somewhat burning. They were not itchy, just hot. I went to the clinic Tuesday and nothing was visible so they did not test for herpes. I doubt its crabs because I see nothing down there. I am so worried I might have caught herpes.

How long do I have to wait to get tested? I know there is a blood test that checks for herpes antibodies. If my balls are hot, clearly I am having a reaction - would it show in a blood test after only a week? How long must I wait? Please, please, please help.

Different herpes blood tests have different results and timelines because they test for different antibodies.

The link below has way too much information on different blood tests that are availble, and when they can detect herpes. If you are serious about getting a blood test, then I would suggest that you weed through the info and go for it.

I'll also, however, give you my take on what I would do. If you are having a bad reaction - and its herpes - then you will be getting some kind of open sore in the next week or two. I'd wait to see if you get a sore. And if you do, I would hurry up and get in to get that puppy swabbed. That would confirm your diagnoses with a SUPER reliable test.

If you don't have an outbreak in the next two weeks or so, then I would pursue the blood test option. Assuming that you are still really concerned about it at that point.

I know that the waiting game is awful. But if you are going to get a test, make sure that it's a test that counts. Otherwise, you're still waiting - and your out the cost of a test.

Good luck.

24 hours i believe. It will be in your blood.

good luck :/

oh and if you have crabs, you would not see them.

I heard it could take anywhere from 1 week to 3 months to show symptoms unless its dormant.. She might of just had a yeast infection or something like that. Get tested again soon.

To be honest, you could just be having a normal inflammatory response to some sort of allergen. Herpes may go unnoticed for years without any symptoms whatsoever. If you are truly concerned (and it sounds like you are) just call your primary care docotr and explain your concerns. Your dr will be able to tell you what to do.

i get the same symptoms from my gf. It is your balls and dick that are recovering from a wild night that is all. its like blue balls but reversed.

I think you need to take a deep breath and calm down. If you see no blisters/ulcers and you are not itchy I doubt you have herpes but im not a doc but itchynes is a big symptom of herpes. Have you used that brand of condom before...you could be allergic to it or have you changed washing powder??? And yes it would show in you blood within a day or so but more so you would see symptoms first....
