It sounds like ringworm to me. We have been through it several times. It is very easily spread so it most likely won't stay in one spot if you are not treating it. The good thing is it is very easy to treat. We have always used an anti fungal cream. The same kind you buy for athletes foot. Just rub it on it 4+ times per day. After the redness goes away continue to treat it with the cream for another week. Then you should be fine. No ringworm does not necessarily have to be in a ring/circle. My son was on his school wrestling team so every wrestling season he got ringworm. Sometimes it just looked like a red rash (no circle).

SCABIES?

a ring worm is contagious so if you touched your ring worm and then touched another part of your body that could cause it to spread use blue star ointment three times a day if it doesn't go away go to the doctor

NOT USUALLY,THEY STAY MOSTLY IN A CIRCLE,I HAVE HAD THEM , MY CHILDREN AND GRAN CHILD HAS.NO ZIG ZAGS THAT I NOTICED.YOU MIGHT WANT TO GO GET DIAGNOSED.

I have had ringworm for an extended period of time before, and it does typically start and remain as circles, but variations in the skin can disrupt the pattern of the fungus, making it slightly less circular. I had a scar on my body in a place where I had ringworm, and it abruptly changed it from the normal circular pattern.

To treat it, you can get topical anti-fungal creams (which you may want to do soon), and keep the affected areas as dry as you can, as well. For more info, look at the link below. Do not let it remain untreated, as it is extremely contagious.
