Does my five year old boy have asthma?!

Question: Before anyone asks, he has a doctors appointment this wednesday but thought I would ask you good folk too! He suffered with a cold when he was 5 months old and since then, whenever he catches any kind of cold type bug (and kids do...alot!), it settles on his chest and he ends up on antibiotics. This has gone on since he was around 18 months old. Of late, he has had a cough and his breathing has been wheezy even when he is 'cough free'. I think I know the answer but some reasurance would be good! I suffer with asthma myself and pleurisy. The later due to smoking. I DO NOT SMOKE AROUND MY SON. Cheers. Have Fun. :0)

ahhh, poor little mite. sounds like asthma, my son had a very similar thing right up untill he was about two. then it seemed that the more he ran around the less he wheezed. by the time he was three it was gon completely. he's 36 years of age and just handed me a little grand daughter SO!! keep on the bright side. I'll keep my fingers crossed for him. good luck.

That is good that you don't smoke around your son. It sounds like he could have asthma but you are doing the right thing by taking him to the doctor.

it could be the genes and most likly he has asthsma but if u need another guess mayb he just has a really low immune system?
my guess would be asthsma though
i hope the docters appointment goes well

Well theres a chance he doesnt, but it sounds like it to me, I had bad asthma when I was little, but now im fine.

It could be asthma, or just a mild, chronic infection. Does he wheeze more when he exercises? This may be another sign of asthma. And the fact that you have asthma means he's a little more likely to develop it.
But I'm sure your doctor will know for sure! Good luck.

He may have asthma, but its good that you have kept the smoke away from him, and taken him to the doctor. Everything should be fine.

sounds like he has asthma ,try and give up smoking yourself, smoke fumes can come off your clothing as well this might be affecting him also.

Well you have done the most important thing and thats getting him to the docs, all the info is common sense and before you start I am not accusing you of anything, keep away from all smoky areas, keep him away from freshly cut grass and thats one of the most common of symptoms as something like 75% of people with hayfever also suffer from astma. Also you need to watch that little bit more until he gets his salbutomol as thats a wonder drug. With in seconds it gets me from not breathing to being able to breathe with in a few minutes, Take care and be aware of the conditions you are in.

the fact you do not smoke round your son is irrelevant as the smoke clings to you are you carry it on your clothes
do you also avoid biological washing powder
do not have any pets?
Oh - does he struggle to breathe out or in
if he struggles to breathe out then iot probably is asthma
if in then something else
oh - justa thought cos it happened to my youngest - she was actaully allergic to the cold virus and that used to trigger asthma when she was little but she grew out of it as she got older

sounds like he has asthma. GOod luck with the dr appointment.
