Make sure he has a pillow to hold over his gut when he coughs, to support the surgical area. It won't hurt nearly as much. Make sure he stays on fairly soft foods for a few days, lots of pears, apples, eggs, rice. Things that'll digest and "pass" easily, so he doesn't have to bear down during a bowel movement. Make sure, if he has indoor pets, that they don't get up on him. And just the fact that someone cares enough about him to want him to be comfortable will be healing in itself. What a peach!

Dont make him laugh!!! I remember not wanting to brush my teeth even, coz it hurt to bend over the sink. You feel like you have been run over by a truck for about a week...after that he should be on the mend. Make him walk, and straighten up as soon as posible because the more you move the faster you get well. He'll be fine, just love him (but be gentle!!)

well with so little info
i will have to guess he is at home now
make sure he takes his pain pills before the pain gets bad...
it will not get better only worse in the beginning better to take it every 4 hours if the directions say take every 4 hours as needed just have him take them every 4 hours, the first few days
you were married to him so make sure he has his favorites foods
and put his favorite beverage his pills and something to snack on near where he is so he can get to them
along with the remote a phone and his phone numbers for his dr and friends
