Need help understanding sugar levels & white blood cells in urine for UTI?!

Question: I went to the Dr's yesterday to have diagnosis of what I thought was UTI. Pinching feeling when urinating and frequency going. No fever, chills, sweating, bloodpressure was low and no blood in urine. I am overweight, 5'2" at 215 lbs. He gave me antibiotics for UTI and something starting w/ a P to help the pinching pain while urinating. Meds started to work and frequency has decreasd.Dr called back today to say I had very few white cells in urine, but sugar level was 70 in urine. He said the urine test did not indicate exactly the type of infection I had because the white cells were so low, but he was more concerned with the 70 sugar level in urine. So he wants me to come in for blood work. I am just trying to understand if I all of a sudden had these symptoms of a UTI, why are white blood levels low for infection and sugar levels showing. I guess my question has two parts///low white cells in urine and sugar level at 70 in urine. I just want to understand. Help!!! Anyone!!!

First of sukosari "serum glucose levels" come from serum which is part of the blood. He is asking about urine. Wrong bodily fluid. Low white blood cells in urine mean that you aren't fighting a particularly strong infection. Usually with a UTI you would see high WBC's not low. You must have had bacteria in the urine or he wouldn't have given you an antibiotic. So don't worry about the WBC's that will all go away. As far as the sugar in the urine, sugar isn't supposed to be in the urine. Imagine a lake with a dam, if that lake gets to full the water will spill over the side. It is the same in your body. Lake being urine and the dam being your kidneys. He is obviously worried about Type II diabetes. With your weight you are high risk. He will probably have you come check your A1C which will tell him your overall sugar over the last 3 months (this test will not change depending on what you eat that day) You probably got the UTI because of all the sugar in your urine. It is a breeding ground for bacteria. Have you felt sluggish lately? Unusually tired? Thirsty? only a few of the symptoms of diabetes. This is just one of those visits to the dr when you go in for one thing and they find something else on accident.

It is possible that you have developed diabetes which can cause increased incidence of UTI's.
The increased sugar in the urine of diabetics is prime breeding ground for bacteria. That's why your Dr. want to run blood tests - to check for diabetes, or other things that could cause sugar in the urine.

The level of blood sugar is the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. Also known as serum glucose level. It is expressed as millimoles per litre (mmol / l).

Normally, blood glucose levels stay within narrow limits throughout the day: 4 to 8mmol / l. But they are higher after a meal and usually lowest in the morning.

In diabetes the level of blood sugar moves outside these limits until treatment. Even with a good control of diabetes, the level of blood sugar is derived sometimes even outside of this normal range.
