MRSA is a bacteria that is resistant to the usual antibiotics, and hard to get rid of with the unusual ones. It causes infections on the skin (like boils), in the respiratory tract and in wounds.

MRSA is not a problem to everyone. Over 60% of people have been colonized with MRSA ... this means that it is living somewhere on them without making them sick. It will become colonized around the fingernails, in the nasal passages and throat, and in the groin area. Once it becomes colonized, it is very hard to get rid of.

I don't know who told you that she is not contagious, but MRSA can be passed from one person to another by direct contact. In the hospital, patients with MRSA are put in isolation to prevent the spread to other patients. I don't want this to scare you, but know that you need to do extremely good handwashing, wash all bedding and clothing well that comes in direct contact with your daughter and wash her bathtub out daily with bleach. These things will help prevent you from coming down with it. It will also help to prevent her from a re-infection later.

Your daughter will be ok once this boil is cleared up. Know though that a person who has had one MRSA infection, will have a tendancy to get another MRSA infection again in the future easier than other people.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are a type of staphylococcus or "staph" bacteria that are resistant to many antibiotics. Staph bacteria, like other kinds of bacteria, normally live on your skin and in your nose, usually without causing problems. MRSA is different from other types of staph because it cannot be treated with certain antibiotics such as methicillin.

You MUST keep the baby clean and you must keep the house and all bed linens and youself clean as you can. This is the main thing to keep MRSA from recurring.

Medications must be given on time, and not skipped.
