I would like to add that your Doc would not of recommended that you take a Vitamin D supplement if your liver enzymes are " slightly elevated" . This does not necessarily indicate liver damage. So, I agree with answerer # 2. You can take Vit D supplement and a generic version is just as good as a brand name. The best supply of Vitamin D is sunlight, known as the " sunshine vitamin ".

Vitamins A, D, E and K are stored in the liver. They are also fat-soluble. You can overdose on these because of this.
Take caution with A,D,E and K. You can build up enough toxins to cause all kinds of problems, including but not limited to, death and liver problems.
Vitamin B and C are water-soluble. That is why energy drinks and multivitamins can pack in 8000% of your Daliy Recommended Value of vitamin B or C and not kill you.
Example of how they are water soluble:
If you take a vitamin B supplement, have you ever had bright yellow urine? That is because you are pissing out the vitamin B.

I returned and see the person below me partially disagrees with me. I urge you to look up:
1) What does fat-soluble mean
2) What vitamins are fat-soluble
3) What is vitamin D. A fat-soluble or water-soluble

Nowhere is mentioned that normal Vit D dose damages liver. Excess if in reasonable amount, is excreted. In renal impairment Vit D3 is advisable, otherwise any Vit D will be good for you.
Good luck!

Get it from natural sources like a healthy well balanced diet and also vitamin D fortified filtered milk.
