If there is a doc out there who can give me his opion, can osteomiolitis be effe!

Question: this is with regards to diabetes type II that has opened a sore in the patient's foot

Answers: this is with regards to diabetes type II that has opened a sore in the patient's foot

When a diabetic gets osteomyelitis, the likelihood of eliminating the infection depends largely on eliminating the foot ulcer. The ulcers generally cause the osteomyelitis, and damage to arteries or veins causes the ulcer. Foot ulcers are nearly impossible to stop if there is extensive damage to the arteries and veins in the foot. If the arteries and veins are not severely damaged, antibiotics alone, work most of the time. If the arteries and veins are damaged, they need to be repaired; otherwise, another ulcer will develop and nothing progresses.

One particular study found that giving antibiotics, alone, eliminated foot ulcers and osteomyelitis a little more than half the patients in the study, while vascular surgery, combined with antibiotics, boosted the success rate to nearly 80%. When making a decision about treating osteomyelitis, it would be a good idea to have a doctor evaluate the condition of the arteries and veins before making a decision.

osteomyelitis can be treated but i dont know if his foot has adequate blood supply....treatment depends on grade of diabetic foot which mayb require an amputation even....discuss with ur doc.....

Most experts use some variant of the classification system developed by Wagner and most currently modified by Brodsky.1, 2

Table 1. Depth-Ischemia Classification of Diabetic Foot Lesions*
Depth Classification Definition Treatment
0 At-risk foot, no ulceration Patient education, accommodative footwear, regular clinical examination
1 Superficial ulceration, not infected Offloading with total contact cast (TCC), walking brace, or special footwear
2 Deep ulceration exposing tendons or joints Surgical debridement, wound care, offloading, culture-specific antibiotics
3 Extensive ulceration or abscess Debridement or partial amputation, offloading, culture-specific antibiotics
Ischemia Classification
A Not ischemic
B Ischemia without gangrene Noninvasive vascular testing, vascular consultation if symptomatic
C Partial (forefoot) gangrene Vascular consultation
D Complete foot gangrene Major extremity amputation, vascular consultation

depending on this classification is the treatment

you need to see a GP, its vascular problems, so depending on severity it may be treated, or it may lead to amputation, it needs to be looked at first, i know people with this problem hve ulcers that open , some spread, some heal but it all has to be carefully looked at,

olha eu acredito que tem sim talvez no google vc pode ter mais informa??o
