Is diphenhydramine/Benadryl a benzodiapezine?!

Question: I'm not really sure, at first I thought it was. I mean, surely it can function as one.

I know that it's an antihistamine and I think it's a hypnotic/sedative, but that doesn't make a benzodiapezine for sure. I think.

Benadryl is a class one antihystamine. This means that is functions on all hystamine receptors, including the ones in the brain. Which causes the effects of sleepiness. It is not classified as either a sedative or a benzodiazapine.

No, no. It will make you sleepy but it's not a benzo. You can not get physically addicted to benadryl.

Its only an anti-histamine, not a sedative/hypnotic. The sleepiness is a side effect not what class it is in.

Nope. Benzodiazaines are prescription only and a different type of medication family altogether. Most antihistamines are over the counter.
