If you don't know, I'd be careful to never allow the cat anywhere near your pillow-blanket -bed, and to wash your hands whenever you touch the cat, change your shirt if you hold it in your arms.

Maybe don't sleep with your cat OR let your cat in your room until you know for sure you aren't allergic to your cat. You may see a difference even before any testing if you keep your cat out of your bedroom - he/she will adjust to it. My cats all have.

If your allergies are related to pets, then no. The dander in their fur is what causes the allergies. If your allergies are to food or dust or something else, then its ok to sleep with kitty.
