My friend wants to take woodshop, but shes allergic to dust & dust mites.?!

Question: Its a lung problem of some sort. Do you think she should take it? Would they make her wear a doctors mask or something. The woodshop room gets pretty dirty with wood shavings and saw dust all the time

there are many different types of masks (better than the "doctor" mask) available. I have allergies and have used a mask with filters approved for various types of environments. The woodshop teacher should be able to direct her to the appropriate retailer (usually an equipment supplies store) with the type of mask and filter required. As a warning these masks do not come cheap!! I would also check with her doctor first to make sure she is not allergic to the kind of wood(s) being used in the shop as a precaution.

To your friend, I have the same problem, she would have to wear a mask that is especially for dust and dust mites. You shouldn't breath this even if you are not allergic.

I did not enjoy wood shop. Even wearing masks and using an air blow sprayer always had watery eyes. But,. try it first if it is something she really wants to try.
