first you must change your diet and then the reflux will subside some. prilosec is the best over the counter meds. but there is something that the Dr. can prescribe but my oncologist said that is was also pricey. do away with soda, no hot foods, no spicy foods, caffeine. but I've found nothing else that works any better than the prilosec and controlling your diet. go on line and find out what main foods cause the reflux. i know they told me not to eat late at night also. i understand what you are going through. hope you find something else that helps.

Cheaper over the counter stuff. Try them early in the morning first thing before your stomach begins to build up acid. Avoid trigger foods high in acidity. If you smoke quit.

An alkaline. Over the counter

Antacids for the Treatment of Heartburn / Acid Reflux
Antacids work by neutralizing acid in the stomach. Antacids neutralize acid on contact to provide heartburn relief.

Gaviscon
In addition to the acid-neutralizing ingredients found in most antacids, Gaviscon contains alginic acid and sodium bicarbonate. The combination of the alginic acid and bicarbonate will create a a foam barrier which floats on the stomach acid, possibly reducing the number of reflux episodes.

baking soda works very well just put 1/2 to 1 teaspoon in a little water use a little glass 1/3 to 1/2 cup of water it doesn't taste very good but I have tasted worse my grandma thought me that

Pay attention to your food. Avoid sour fruits like citrus, lemon, etc; void coffee, coca cola and alcohol. And take some medicines like antacids.

Antacids are good, but i eat a banana a day! Also try to stop eating when you start to feel full.eat slow and chew properly. You will be surprised how well this works.
