Am I experiencing an allergic reaction to latex?!

Question: Every night for my braces I put in two latex bands in to correct my bite, but I've been having a large rash developing on my cheeks. I woke up this morning and it's spread to my neck and my cheeks are inflamed. Over the past 3 or so days I've tried multiple things, starting with acne cream and then to Zinc Oxide. I'm thinking that I should try taking a Benedril and go a few nights without them and see if it goes away.

That sure does sound like a latex allergy. I would see if there are vinyl bands available. Let your orthodontist know about this, a simple phone call may solve your problem.

Sounds like you are. Ask your orthodontist for silicon bands. I'm sure they will have them or if not google it.

It sounds like you are allergic to latex I would try to call the dentist and ask him if he has any latex free rubber bands.

Oh lordy. When the time comes, be sure you buy polyurethane condoms.

it does sound like an allergic reaction. you should stop using them immediately and call your doctor. sometimes repeated exposure to an allergen will cause and increase in your reaction. this could lead to your airway swelling and cause difficulty breathing

Sounds like a good idea. I would not put the bands back in and I would call the Orthodontist and ask for latex-free bands. I am sure that they do exist. If you are getting the rash and your cheeks are swelling up it sounds like an allergic reaction to me. Acne cream won't cut it. You would need the Benadryl. You are lucky the swelling has not gone to your'e tongue and throat. When it get's to that point and breathing becomes affected it is called anaphylaxis and it can be deadly. Other signs are being sweaty, blood pressure drops, and your GI tract stops working. You do not want to get to that point, trust me. I survived it and it almost cost me. Take some Benadryl and call your Orthodontist. I hope this helps.
