I'm a vegan allergic to tomatoes. do you know of any other alternative sauce!


Question: I realized that every time I eat tomatoes, my mouth hurts really badly and my skin has broken out. I've been eating tomatoes all my life, but never figured it out until today that I'm probably allergic to them. Do you know of any alternative sauces for like pizza and lasagna?

Actually, I prefer to use garlic oil and Italian herbs on my pizzas in lieu of the usual pizza sauce. Lasagne without tomato sauce though, would be hard to pull off. I suppose you could substitute a white sauce, like a Bechamel sauce, instead of the tomatos. The Italians use Bechamel instead of all the usual cheese anyway, and you could just saute veggies and meat to mix in with it. I'm not sure you are truly allergic to tomatos, though. A food allergy usually causes tingles around the mouth, and a rash- but not pimples. You might do better to have yourself tested for it. It also may be your mouth problems are due to the acidity of tomatos, rather than the actual tomato itself. Long cooking usually will reduce that problem, as will a pinch of sugar in the sauce. You may not do well with raw tomatos, but you shouldn't be having problems with stuff like catsup and tomato sauce that's cooked for a while.

You could try a pesto sauce or a roasted red pepper sauce.

My mom got a tomato allergy 10 years ago, and it is severe! she cant even touch them without getting a reaction. She absolutley loves tomatos and can eat them if they are canned, like all ready made sauces and stuff. Just not fresh ones. Maybe the same is true with you?

im a vegetarian.. my friend is a vegan though
i would use rach dressing mixed with cream cheese..
my friend uses some kind of avacodo/spinich sauce..
its really good in pizza
idk about lasagna though
i like making egg plant lasagna
i make a sauce out of egg plant, onions, garlic, spinich and a bit of avacodo..

try making other spread and sauces or find some thing that tastes as similar to a tomatoe like pesto ....yum
