I have heard that using Hydrogen Peroxide can dissolve ear wax. Is there any tru!

Question: I have heard that using Hydrogen Peroxide for excessive build-up of cerumen works well, but I am talking about people like me who produce normal to moderate amounts of ear wax. I filled the cap to the top without adding warm water and waited for it to stop fizzling and then tilted my head and let it drain out. This seems too good to be true! Does the Hydrogen Peroxide "eat" the ear wax and dissolve it? I do not care if it is healthy to have ear wax, I hate it and want it out! My ears are tender and hurt after using Q-Tips for too long, so I am hoping that by only using the H202 I can get rid of the same amount of disgusting ear wax that I would by using swabs, if not more. I know for a fact that I had cerumen inside of my ears before using the Hydrogen Peroxide, but when I was done, there was none to be found...

I use hydrogen peroxide for that use all the time. it usually works really good. put in a dropper full, wait for the bubbling to stop and turn my head to drain it out, if i use a white rag i can see the dissolved wax on it.

I asked about it, cause I too had heard it. They say that it's dangerous because if you have accidentally poked your eardrum that you can hurt it worse w/ the h2o2. I use olive oil, it tends to help just 3 drops in each ear to help loosen the wax, then take a regular shower.

I have heard that too and I practice it about once a month but I don't use that much, I just wet a q-tip and rub it inside my ear, a capful is to much.. It seems to help though.

You should NEVER use hydrogen peroxide to clean cerumen from your ear canal. You never know for sure how stong the peroxide is and strong peroxide can inflame the sensitive skin of the ear canal. Also, if there is any perforation of the typanic membrane the peroxide can migrate to the middle ear and cause a VERY painful ruptue of the tympanic membrane. Ears are self cleaning, just remove the cerumen once it reaches the aperature of the ear canal.
