What is this gross white stuff on the back of my throat???!
Question: i have a severe sore throat, it is very red and swollen. when i looked at it with a flash light i saw some white patches on my tonsills. what is that stuff and why is it there? no smart alec answers please.

White patches on the back of your throat are typically pustules... pus filled pockets. These pockets indicate that your severe sore throat is actually strep throat, in which case you'll need antibiotics such as penicillin to cure it.
Also, have you noticed anything draining from your sinuses or nasal passage down the back of your throat? This can lead to post nasal drip which can also lead to a severely sore throat.
However, in your case it sounds more like strep to me.
Drink LOTS of warm teas, gargle with salt water, eat soup, or ice cream to help soothe it. Unfortunately the only way to cure strep throat is with antibiotics and I doubt you'll find anywhere other that your local hospital that is open right now. It would be in your best interest to get medications ASAP, but if you can't do it til after x-mas when offices open again just avoid sharing drinks or anything with anybody to avoid passing to them.

sounds like strep throat.
you're gonna need to go to the doctors so they can prescribe some antibiotic for you.
The white stuff is pus and you should go to the doctor. This infection is probably strep and you will need an antibiotic to get rid of it.
I had that too as well as a high fever. She said I had tonsillitis.
