So I just got back from having my gall bladder removed. how will my diet change?!

Question: I still want to eat steaks and burgers and pizza and pasta, ice cream and sodas..............................

can I still eat em?? what should I change should I balance my meals more?

how bad would it be if I drank a soda right now? surgery was about 34 hours ago

I had my gallbladder removed about 2 weeks ago, and as of now, i feel much better than i did with it. As for the diet, I agree that your Doctor should have given you some information, but then again, my Doctor told me nothing and when discharged from the hospital, i was told i had no restrictions on what food i ate. A day after surgery I ate KFC (only a few bites!) and had such bad nausea afterwards, that i had to go to the ER with extreme dehydration from all the puking - not fun. After that, i started slowly with jello, applesauce, toast, stuff like that - bland and mild. Slowly, i started eating stuff that was easily digested - basically nothing real fatty or greasy. BUT, in just the two weeks since surgery, i have ate McDonalds twice and felt just fine afterwards. Sorry if this next comment is too much info - but when going #2, i have pretty bad cramps...nothing i cant handle, but be prepared for that possiblity.

As far as the soda, i say go for it! You dont know how your system is going to handle certain foods until you try them. I feel ok about eating certain foods just knowing i wont get one of those horrific attacks i used to have. But i think it is good to take better care of your body and what you put in it. Hope this helps...

These should be questions that you asked your doctor before you even got your gallbladder taken out.

I have had my gallbladder out for years now. I have not changed the way that I have eat any. In fact for 2 months before I had it taken out I could eat any fat so after I got my gallbladder out I went a little crazy. I was craving good Mexican food and BBQ ribs. Is that crazy? Different people have some problems.

I will say that I do go to the bathroom more than I did before but it is not terribly bad so I can handle it.

I drank a can of pop within the first few hours after having my gall bladder removed, to no ill effect.

Theoretically, you should be able to eat the stuff you couldn't eat before.
You should be better able to tolerate the burgers and ice cream.

I had mine about 34 years ago and never had to change my diet.===

i know nothing about gall bladders or surgery but i do know that eating burgers, pizza, ice cream, sodas, and too many steaks are really really unhealthy. if you truely care about yourself .. you will refrain from the calories and sugary, fatty foods. try a different grocery store that doesnt provide unhealthy foods and try to order out less. you honestly will feel so much better about yourself.
