Bri,

It takes time for the body to heal. Your throat will be sore for a couple of weeks and you won' feel like eating much.

When I had my tonsils an all taken care of about 10 years ago (when I was 42), it was hell for me. Like you I couldn't sleep. I had to sleep in my Lazy Boy tilted upwards. It was awful.

Now where your tonsils came out should have had a covering over them like scab -did that come off. I usually does after a few days. When that does it usually starts bleeding heavily. My Doctor didn't tel me that! But I live with a nurse and he told me to gargle gently with Ice Water, and to let the blood drain into a bowl - don't swallow it if you can.

Once that covering is off, your tonsils will start healing much more quickly. What you can eat -things that slide down smootlhly and fast. Anything rough HURTS. I found that smooth pasta noodles with butter on them was okay. But you have to swallow them in one gulp - and even that will hurt son. Just remember to stay away from anything rough - like Pizza - the crust is rough - steak - even bread is rough. Milkshakes are good - anything cold.

But again for the first week - you don't want to swallow because it hurts so bad. The second week is a tad better - but only a tad. But as the weeks go by it will get better. If I remember right, it took me about 6 or 7 weeks until my throat was fully healed.

Now for your nose - your deviated septum. Did your Doctor put a plastic Splint up there? Do you have a small string sticking out of one nostril and going back into the other? If you have that string, that means your Doctor put packing up there to control bleeding - and that's hell on earth to have taken out.

But you should have had that out already if they put them in you. The splint and packing are usually taken out after only a few days. They don't let it sit for a week.

If they did and haven't taken them out - before they do, make sure they soak each sinus/nostril opening with an anesthetic - and have them wait until it soaks in. Do not let them pull it out immediately after they spray in the anesthetic!!!! For me they did and I just about went into shock - that's how bad the pain was when my doc removed the packing tampons. UGH! I still remember!

Anyway, the plastic splints slide right out - they kept your septum in place so it could heal in the proper place - and also kept your airway open.

The packing is like two tiny tampons shoved up, way up your nose. Once inside they expand as they soak up all the blood. They pull these out one at a time and they feel like they're pulling giant plums out of your nose. Believe me when I say that without anesthetic it HURT.

That's it BRI - it will get better, but it does take a couple of weeks.

Good Luck,

Ken
