Is a T.U.R.P painful?
My doctor says I need to have a TURP. If you've ever had one, I suppose you'll know what it is. My question is, "is it painful? How long does it take to recuperate?" My doctor says its a relatively simple procedure. Is he telling me the truth?

TURP is Trans Urethral Resection of the Prostate. I would imagine having your prostate shaved via the urethra (urinary passage through the penis) is going to involve some level of discomfort. That said, it is relatively simple a procedure from the surgeon's point of view, and is certainly the least invasive method of reducing an enlarged prostate. You should be given pain meds to keep you comfortable afterwards while you heal. If you are unsure of anything your urologist should be able to give you more information.
