i'm 13 years old (male) and yesterday i was hugging my girlfriend and i got an erection. i know when you're supposed to get erections, but all i did was hug her and i got one! is something wrong?

Let's see... 13 years old... at the beginning of puberty (ie, the era of raging hormones)... hugging your girlfriend... +/- additional provocative thoughts going thru your mind while hugging her... that's a lethal combo for getting erections.
Just chill, random erections happen a lot during this time period. Just be glad it's happening, coz that way, you know your equipment is working. Just be responsible with it.
