I have spina bifida myelomeningocele.
If such a person can have erections depends on the severity of the defect, its location and whatever associated complicating factors are present. Spina bifida is divided into four categories. The least severe is Occulta. This defect can have no outward signs and is the mildest from of this defect. The second form is closed neural tube defects, the third meningocele. In the most severe form (Myelomeningocele) it can cause complete paralysis. In the most severe form most of the body below the defect is paralyzed. This includes bladder and bowel functions. If the defect is above the level of the T10 vertebrae most men with spina bifida will be able to achive an erection.
