The long term effects are not known!. Most men develop anti-sperm antibodies due to the inevitable "blowouts" in the epididymus from chronic back pressure created by blocking the vas (tubes)!. The long term immunologic effects of these auto-immune antibodies is not well known!. They do seem to decrease the success of vasectomy reversal and may rarely cause auto-immune orchitis (inflammation of the testicles)!.

It is a simple procedure!. The immediate postoperative pain symptoms are fairly mild, although there is about a five percent rate of bleeding or infection, but this is usually manageable!. Of course if you end up with a hematoma or an infection, it is a bit anxiety provoking and can be painful until these resolve!.
The long-term issue with chronic testicular pain is the most important side effect!. Few people talk about this, even though the incidence is around 10 to 15%!.
