Circumcised or not?!

Question: Hello! I'm Italian and I live in Italy (so I apologize for my English...): is it true that 30 years ago most of American males were circumcised and now most of American kids are not circumcised?

Back 30 years ago, in the 1970's and 80's most American men were circumcised at birth. In 1964 the rate peaked at 90%. Currently, the rate is somewhere between 50-55%. The current rate also varies by region too. Like in the Midwest, the rate is really high, currently hovering around 80%. The Midwest includes states like Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, Kansas etc... In the northeast (New York, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania etc...) the rate is in the upper 60% range. It is also high in the southern states (Florida, North Carolina, Alabama). States like California, Arizona, and Washington have low circumcision rates currently about 30%.

By the way, your English is great.

we were born with foreskin, why remove it

well,my hubby is 36 and not been...i actually know quite a few men that were not,but as i have only girl children i couldn't tell you what the current statistic is for that...personal choice really ...and i so totally agree with fukker and was gonna say the bit about yeast inf,so good going fukker....i liked saying that...hehehe

Circumcision was practiced by jew. Actually most americans and Europeans were not circumcised.

The foreskin has twelve known functions.
They are:
to cover and bond with the synechia so as to permit the development of the mucosal surface of the glans and inner foreskin.
to protect the infant's glans from feces and ammonia in diapers.
to protect the glans penis from friction and abrasion throughout life.
to keep the glans moisturized and soft with emollient oils.
to lubricate the glans.
to coat the glans with a waxy protective substance.
to provide sufficient skin to cover an erection by unfolding.
to provide an aid to masturbation and foreplay.
to serve as an aid to penetration.
to reduce friction and chafing during intercourse.
to serve as erogenous tissue because of its rich supply of erogenous receptors.
to contact and stimulate the G-spot of the female partner.
The above list was compiled from various sources by George Hill.

Circumcision in America

Debra S. Ollivier

When I told people that our newborn son would not be circumcised, I didn't realize that a tiny but vital part of his penis would touch off deeply held convictions about cultural mores, aesthetics, psychology, hygiene, father-son relations, American identity and thousands of years of biblical traditions. In fact, I hadn't given penises much thought since my teenage years, when every penis was a circumcised penis and the only issue of overriding concern as the tentative probings of adolescence bloomed into full-blown sexuality was: "How does this thing work?" Years later, I was given a detailed, hand-etched poster called "Penises of the Animal Kingdom"; in this vast forest of mammalian genitalia the only thing more striking than the banality of man's penis next to that of the 20-foot gray whale was the fact that all of them, including man's, were intact. Aside from this brush with reality, however, the mushroom leitmotif of the circumcised penis remained the unequivocal, unquestioned status quo of my youth and of all my peers. It was the uncircumcised penis, with its strange fleshy retractability, that was somehow freakish, a slightly vestigial aberration, like being born with a tail or a set of gills.

Circumcision was first performed to distinguish Roman men from Jewish men.My son who is 29 was not circumcised has no problems in that area. If a male keeps himself clean then there will be no problems. Some females think this is unattracted and others don't. So it's up to the parents.

I have been circumcised and so have both of my sons. There's no point in whinging about your foreskin if it's been removed. It's gone. So I have never known any different and therefore as I have often written in most of my answers, I make the best use of the resources that I have including being circumcised.

I imagine that those who still have their foreskin will do their best to make the most of what they have also. Either way most of us have never known any different. We have had a foreskin or we have not had a foreskin for our entire lives. There are like in a lot of other areas advantages for and against either way. Be happy with your equipment either way men, I'm sure I would not want to be circumcised as an adult, thats for sure.

I am circumcised.

My 5 year old son is as well.

The question is actually asking for affirmation or denial of a statement - that most American kids are nowadays not circumcised whereas 30 years ago they were.
Irrespective of your opinions pro or contra I think it is still the case that most American male kids are circumcised. Not as many are done in the neonatal period for sure but adding in those cut later the percentages are not that different today than they were thirty years ago and the majority are circumcised.

yes most of american dudes are circumsized adn the american women are only used to seeing circed guys some of use did not get circed and are the minority but it is not being done as much anymore

curtdude

It is true that 30 years ago 90% of boys were circumcised routinely in hospitals. Today, the rate of newborn circumcision is much lower, but still most American boys are circumcised at birth. The US National average of boys circumcised after birth is still about 60%.

In certain regions of the country (california/west coast), the circumcision rate is much lower (about 30%) and in other regions of the country (middle states) it's higher than the national average and closer to what it was decades ago (about 80-90%).

St Paul asked the followers not to circumcised

Yeah it was the same in Australia until the early 80s. I agree that it shouldn't be done as it is not an abnormality so why change it

A number of years back there was some research done that indicated there wasn't a need for it so now it's not done as often, or at least not as often as we think. I'm in Canada and it definitely varies. It's not covered by our provincial health plans anymore and to have a baby circumsized is $150. The trouble is, if you do have to have it done later in life for a multitude of reasons, it's extremely painful. A lot of parents don't know how to properly take care so little kids end up having it done at 5 or 6 because of infections, etc. It's more the teaching that should be done on how to care for uncircumsized penises that would keep these problems from occurring down the road.

Yes, over 90% of all US males were mutilated up until the past few years, now the rate of circumcism has dropped dramatically to around 53% of all male babies. Takes us a while over here s in the primative lands of America to finally realize we are doing unnecessary harm to ourselves. Probably will be another 20 years before the majority of males at puberty will be uncut and natural but we are getting there.

most americans thinks circumsizing is not good or rubbish

truth is, theyre scared to cut their foreskin..

not cuting the foreskin wil result in yeast infection for the ladies if they have anal/oral sex with you if you arent circumsized..

plus most americans thought that it is rubbish if circumsizing was for good hyegiene..
it really is for good hyegiene !

ask any doctor

you'll have those dirty smelly yellow thing when you retract your foreskin and youll have to wash it so it wont get smelly

when youre circumsized, you dont need to do all of that anymore..
its much more cleaner and safer for you and your partner when having sex..

so dont believe those idiots that think circumsizing is bad ir stupid, they dont have enought educations so they wil say that.

infact, nowadays more people are getting curcumsized more than last time..

Most white boys (80%+)are still being circumcised! My own sons are 1&3 and both are circumcised as well as all our friends young boys! We live in Southern California where the over all circumcision rate is low because all the Mexicans that have illegally come to the USA from Mexico. In California it is very much a race thing!
