I would describe mental health in two parts. One describes the health of your mind as an organic unit. You can keep your mind organically healthy by doing things such as taking part in mentally challenging activities, lifelong learning, nutrition and even physical fitness. Things go awry in the organic nature of the mind and manifests itself in such things as dementia, and neurochemical imbalances causing instability in mood.

The second part describes the health of an individual's emotions, which is bolstered by such things as developing good coping skills and good stress management skills. Some of these things go awry in a person's personality dispositions and the like.
