It’s a cruel paradox that when you get home and are safe that is when you really have time to think about what happened over there. When you were over there you didn’t have the luxury of letting what was happening to truly sink in. You still need to do what you’ve always done, and that is to live each day one day at a time. We are all going to do what we need to do to cope. My avatar is a perfect example of this; I’m performing the straitjacket escape for my shipmates on the back of a cruiser in the Arabian Sea. I really can’t tell you if it gets easier with time because I’m still deployed over here (or there, depending on your point of view). I hope when I come home that it will be like everything else I’ve faced the last 15 years of being in the military, that is it will be easier if I make it easier. You are just as strong now as you were when you were over there.
I guess that the TV News probably isn’t helping any. Maybe it’s just the libertarian in me, but I take a sense of pride in seeing people express their opinions in opposition of what is happening and that we are fighting for their right to say it even though we completely disagree with it. Freedom was never free; you, me, and every other veteran are the ones who carry the burden of its cost. If you want to talk to other veterans about this, there should be a local VFW. Most of them will know what you’re going through and might be able to help. If not the try the VA. Remember you are never alone; we will always be here for you if you need us.

Yesterday is gone; and tomorrow is no guarantee; so make today the best day ever.
