What's the diffrence between psycologists and psychiatrists?
how would you know which one you need to see? let's say you have issues stemming from your childhood that is affecting your life now and your outlook on it, which professional would help more?

Psychologists have a degree allowing them to engage in psychoanalysis, screening and psychotherapy, whereas psychiatrists must have a medical degree in psychopharmocology in order to practice.
When it comes down to making a decision as to which one to see, you have the freedom to choose both, but there are positives and negatives to selecting one versus the other.
For instance, selecting a psychologist will allow you to challenge your personal issues and experience some personal coaching on a professional and confidential basis. It can be a positive experience for many. But, it could only go so far and may not be enough to meet your needs. Some may opt for inclusion of medication into this regimen if the counseling is not enough...which is where a visit to a psychiatrist becomes an option.
Selection of a psychiatrist is only recommended if you are already seeing a psychological counselor and is NOT recommended if you intend only on utilizing medication alone to solve your problems. Certain medications (especially anti-psychotic, anti-depressive, etc.) tend to work more effectively when in conjunction with counseling and continued visits to a psychologist, though a psychiatrist may not bring this to your attention.
