How long does tardive dystonia and tardive dykinesia last for after stopping ant!

Question: How long does tardive dystonia and tardive dykinesia last for after stopping anti-psychotics?
I was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder (I have adult ADHD) and developed tardive dystonia and tardive dyskinesa whilst on the the medication (Seroquel, then Zyprexa, then Abilify). Unfortunately my psychiatrist at the time thought I (and two neurologists) were misguided. I am not sure why I carried on listening to her, I guess I thought I would feel even worse if I didn't. I only took the medication for about 5 yrs (and for 2 of those was on heavy doses, 125 mg seroquel TDS type stuff). 2 years on, I still suffer from flare-ups, particularly when I menstruate. Is there any way of knowing when this will stop. Apparently my prognosis for recovery is good, as I am young (26), otherwise in good health, and did not take the meds for a long time (apparently). I know this is a shot in the dark, but is there any way of telling when this will end... I can feel my jaw starting to move and am a bit desperate.

Answers:

I really wish I could give you a date but unfortunately, I cannot. Some people never develop these types of things where others in 3 months. If I had to guess I would say 6 to 8 months. That really is just a guess. it could all stop in 3 months. Sorry I could not be more specific. Good news is you will get there.
