Lumpy, your best bet is to keep in good communication with your doctor and tell him or her everything that you mentioned here in your post. In the meantime, please consider reading Psalm 34:18 in the Bible - I find that verse very encouraging and uplifting. Good luck to you, Lumpy.
I recommend writing shorter posts and abstaining from typing every 2nd word in CAPS. It's good for the soul.

i dont see anything wrong with being on Meds if you need them and not meaning to say you rely on them but i think you would benifit from staying on the medication your doctors have prescribed..... after all they seem to be doing you a lot of good
sorry i cant help you any more but all the best

I think your doctor has given you some very good advice, and I'd follow his recommendations. It's not unusual for some meds to make you feel sleepy, but lots of times this side effect goes away in time. As you said, it's so much better than anxiety and panic. That's the goal, and if taking a med is helping you, then go ahead and use it.
Hello Lumpy, I have been in a similar situation. I too have taken Prozac and Amitriptyline. I started taken Prozac initially ( cannot recall the dosage ) and was on a virtual high ( outgoing and sociable etc) for 5 weeks. I then crashed and and returned to a relative baseline - neither 'happy' or 'sad' and my doctor told me that this was the desired place to be. I had difficulty sleeping.
I spoke to my doctor and told him of my sleeping difficulty and he suggested taking Amitriptyline. I continued with prozac AND amitriptyline and slept so well which gave me a good sense on well-being. I tapered off Prozac( which i felt was no longer beneficial ) and remained on Amitriptyline for a further year. I am generally free of the deep depression but continue to take Amitriptyline for the sleeping benefits.
Be warned high dosage of Amitriptyline can make you drowsy throughout the day!
As for med free - well i use self hypnosis ( i support the use of hypnosis for virtually every form of mental illness- it works a treat) there is life after the darkness so keep your chin up and smile the day away.
ok same deal with me... combination us better for me, I take Prozac n morning and amitriptylin at night. seems to be good combo for me... I've been trying for 12 years to find the right meds for my bipolar disorder - however I have more major depression than manic tendencies. everyones different, what may work for one may not for another, most importantly, dont give up - you re worth more than you know.

You know how these doses are affecting you so go with your doctors advice and keep an open channel of communication. I would also suggest joining a support group as the meds will only treat the symptoms and maybe not the root cause. My mother is on meds for the last 20 years and is not improving, yet refuses to go for any counselling or therapy.
difficult with ssri, they cope with some conditions but raise others. Tricyclic antidepressants help with sedation,I found the best mix to be an ssri low dose and olanzapine, low dose, this will reduce anxiety and panic attacks,it works but is expensive, but watch your weight.Just keep you doc up to date with your reviews and do not be afraid to ask for extra consultations.Keep a daily diary that helps the docs. You are not the only one that has been here one in ten of us will admit to it and another one in ten will not.
Listen to your doctor on this after all they have the experiance in treating depression. Problem is being on anitrpytinen alone will not treat depresioin, and you will be sleepy and dragged out all the time just being on that drug. I have been on it myself now I take Welbutrin in the am and ativan at night and no daytime drowziness. Good luck.
Before you stop taking anything, make sure to let your doctor know about what is going on, okay? That is the most important. If you do stop, they may want to try another replacement.
Making lifestyle changes is great and putting away the alcohol is wonderful, especially since it is a depressant.
Different drugs interact differently with different people. What works for you might have no affect on me at all. Likewise, what works for me might be the worse thing you have ever taken. So, you have to find the combination that works best for you. You can't listen to what others take and base a decision on that because their body chemistry is different than yours and likely won't respond the same.
The fish and cod liver oil might not be necessary. Instead, invest in a good daily vitamin to help give you a boost of energy. Good luck!
