No, I would say that's not normal, is this girls life really that horrible or does she just have a lack of self esteem?

I wouldn't call it 'normal' exactly, but it isn't all that uncommon. People have different ways of coping with any problems they have, and sometimes self-harming is one of the ways people cope with it, for various reasons. Oh, and it doesn't mean they're mentally unstable. I've met a few people who do it for many different reasons, and not all of them I'd say are unstable (although they can be). Most of them even were happy sometimes, and otherwise live quite normal lives aside from that.

I doubt the cutting has anything to do with the hatred of her life, but the not wanting to hate it anymore. Cutting can release endorphins, which cause a sort of elated state. However, it is IN FACT causing injuries. Yes, they'll heal. Yes, those scars will serve as reminders of survival, but there are better, more constructive, and more permanent ways to improve matters.

I am an ex-cutter.

It is not per-say "abnormal" as many do cut, however it is not the correct way of handling in issue such as this. As an ex-cutter, I know what you possibly may be feeling, circumstances differ of course, but the root from my experiences is just feeling left out, ignored, overlooked, and simply overstressed or upset, angry or sad. Or a not-so-lovely mix. Yeah :/ quite a bit.

What I always found to be helpful is just trying to relax. Take a shower, drink some tea or coffee or something soothing you enjoy. Do not drink alcohol as that will not help at all. Sit down, read a book, talk to a friend or invite them over, laugh! Watch a funny movie.

Eventually coping with other things became irrelevant as I began to understand that cutting myself really did absolutely nothing to help my situation. Doing other things, working, hobbies, became a distraction and at first left no room to pity myself, and eventually helped me to forget altogether any reason to cut.

well what is "normal" these days? if you're cutting yourself or know someone who is, you/they need help. i was doing the same thing, sometimes still do, it's not healthy. cutting only makes you feel worse because your left with scars that only keep reminding you of pain. try talkign to a counsellor or researching tips to be a happier person. a few things i try that actually do helps for minor depression situations are:

- drink heaps of water so your brain and body dont get dehydrated and tired, which makes you feel even worse
- get heaps of sleep, otherwise you feel tired and worn out
- Try to eat healthy so you dont feel bloated, worn out etc.
- TALK! Get it out of your system. if someone is bothering you, tell them for goodness sake. if it's something you cant solve, try to deal with it in a way that suits everyone. if it's schoolwork, try the above tips and also ask for help from your teachers, if they dont help, you can complain to ur principle, if that person ALSO doesnt help, you can contact the education department, because thats not on.

these are really simple and i found they helped quite a lot. good luck! i hope you feel better soon, just remember that your friends and family love you and dont want to see you dissappear from their lives.

are you serious????? of course its not normal!!! Anyone who is physically harming themselves needs help

Maybe but if its that bad you can always make changes
