Please help me! What should I do?!

Question: Please help me! What should I do?
Okay, so I recently have been diagnosed with PTSD.. Soon, in science, we will be doing dissections of cats. I've had two traumatic events... one involves seeing a cat of over 10 years dying before my eyes, and the other one deals with blood.. lots and lots of blood (not of my own).

I am very interested in science and want to participate, but I don't know if I should.. I know I'll most likely be twitching the whole time if I do and will feel really messed up the rest of the week at LEAST. I haven't yet talked to my psychologist about it..

If I decide not to participate in the dissections, how will I tell my science teacher? I don't want anybody else to know besides my family and friends that I suffer from this disorder.. School doesn't even know about it.

Thanks for your help. xx

If I were you, I wouldn't participate. I just can't imagine dissecting cats. We always have a cat or two in our house.

And, if you decide not to participate, perhaps your parents could call the teacher and explain the situation and ask to keep it confidential.

you will need to tell your science teacher about it so that he/she will understand why you feel that you can't participate in this part of the curriculum. he/she may be able to give you something else to do instead of to take its place. otherwise he/she will assume that you can't be bothered and fail you.

I think that maybe you might try a discreet meeting with your instructor. I'm almost positive that you will be treated with caring kindness and perhaps given something else to do in its place, There are programs that can be worked through the computer program regarding dissection anatomy.
