How do you live with a bipolar/manic depressant/overweight husband!

Question: How do you live with a bipolar/manic depressant/overweight husband
my sister has a husband who is all of these, they've been married for 6 years and she thinks she has had it!
he will sometimes not take his medication, he has extreme low self esteem and he actually used to be a very popular jock in highschool!
they have had two kids and she can't divorce him because she can't let her kids go thru what our brothers and sister did, he is also her best friend, she is also probably one of the only one who is crazy enough to put up with it for that long!.
he's an amazing guy, my sister is a strong woman, what are encouraging things to say to people like this!?
how can you motivate them to get off their lazy butt and work out or help with the kids (which i might add, he hardly ever helps)
she has faith in him, he has gotten a little better but it's such a little change that she wonders if it's even noticeable or working fast enough!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

some medicines have side affects to gain weight, like abilify, sounds like he need a booster like for adhd, vyvanse or ritalin to motivate him, take away the beer, booze, pot, these things cause stress that inter fer with the bi-polar,tv, no sports, anything that's a necessitate, tell him he can't have it if he can't help!.trade 1 necessitate for every project he helps out with, how do a couple live that way, post to be a partner system,if he ain't taking his meds,he's having relapse thinking he's better,it takes 2 weeks for the drug to work full-time and 2 weeks to leave there body,i have your sis talk to the doctor that he's not taking his meds, and to increase his meds or try a different med, what he can't even take the kids for a bike ride, play in the park,!.change diapers, what a slacker i'm bi polar and i cycle everyday,do my own grocery shopping, laundry, car repair, and whatever else needs done and i'm singleWww@Answer-Health@Com

He needs to continue taking his medication, and she should threaten to leave him if he stops taking it!. He will thank her for it later!. It takes a few years for the medication to address the phyiscal and chemical imbalances in the brain that cause this condition, but it can be pretty dramatic progress!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

she has been putting up with this for 6 years!. they have kids;, so she can start by getting him to do small things first!. like taking out the trash--helping with the kids etc: she can suggest to him that they need to go for some walks together!. walking will be a good stress reliever for both of them!. then;, she needs to tell him that she needs help handling things- because it is too much for her to keep doing by herself!. hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Maybe encouraging a reward or something of the sort if he did this or that!. Just telling him to do something isn't always encouraging!. It is exactly the same with children!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
