I don't see why people assume cutting/eating disorders imply the person is i!

Question: I don't see why people assume cutting/eating disorders imply the person is in need of a doctor!?
I mean, everytime someone puts up a question regarding anorexia or cutting, everyone's answer is "you need HELP! SERIOUS help!. see a doctor!"

but honestly, i have been down both of those roads and in neither of those times was i seriously disturbed or in need of help!. I got over my cutting by myself, and though I'm still working on the eating disorder part, I feel like it's not as bad as everyone makes it out ot be!.!.

i KNOW i probably sound naive and everything, but just because someone wants to starve so they look fragile, does that seriously mean they need psychological help!?!

I don't know!. I just want to see other people's opinions on this!.!.!.sorry if I offended you guys in any way! i seriously don't mean this as an insult or i don't mean to glorify cutting/eating disorders!. i'm just wondering!.!.thanks in advance!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Don't worry about offending anyone!. You'r alloud to have your own opinion!.

People say that because, unlike you did, some people can go down a very bad road with either of those things!. People that cutt damage their bodies, they scratch up their arms and might not feel like they arn't worth anything!. This may not have happened to you, but a lot of people can go into a really bad road because of this!. And thats no way too live!.

And with the eating disorder thing, it actually is a big deal!. Girls get so skinny that they die!. Their organs shut down and they arn't able to function!. It may not happen to a lot of girls!.!.but it certainly happens!. People have lost friends, sisters, mothers over this disorder!.

You probably just got lucky by stopping these two things!. It's great that you were able to do this without being damaged!. I'm sure your beautiful, and that you don't need to throw up to make yourself feel better!. Love yourself, you only have one life to life! <3 Good luck, I hope these answers make you understand!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Both cutting and eating disorders are harmful to your body- physically and psychologically!. They go much deeper than you imply!.

Sure, you can overcome these things yourself!. And good for you to stop cutting!. But problems that have a psychological/emotional component to them are difficult for a person to overcome on their own!. Primarily because they deny they have a problem!.

Well, that's my two cents anyway!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Cutting and eating disorders are externally, self-mutiliating behavior!. Mentally, they are control issues!. In other words, the person feels out of control of life, and looks towards their body - their own means of control - to do what they choose!.

This is not a healthy attitude!. It inevitably leads to depression in just about all cases!.

So to me, self-mutilation, lack of control, and depression cries out for a doctor's intervention!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

People who do that, are usually having a problem or stress in there personal life, or have very low self confidence, and talking to a therapist can help, but sometimes it's just like a phase and you get over it yourself, yeah people do go overboard at times when they see somebody cutting themselves or anything like that!.

(I have anorexia and cut)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Both are very self-destructive behaviors!. They are violent and immediate!. They are internalizing anger instead of placing it where it belongs!. They are blaming yourself for things not yours to blame!. I hope you find your way to understanding that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Basically, mental healthcare is considered desperately needed if a person is a threat or harm to himself or others!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is because this harms the person mentally and physically!. It is hazardous to their health and is deadly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Oh yes they do!. Both are potentially deadly and neither solves problems!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Honestly I have been down both paths and am still dealing with the eating disorder as well!. I did not see a doctor for cutting but decided on my own that it was not something I wanted to let everyone in the world know that I did!. I was embarrassed by it and I stopped but still think about it every once in a while when something sets me off!.

You are right and I agree with you that we are neither seriously disturbed but help is always an option and that is why people suggest it!. Just the mere suggestion of help does not mean that they think you are "off your rocker" but people suggest seeing someone because everyone needs someone to talk to sometimes and most of the time talking to a person who is not judging you is helpful!.

Also a lot of people who respond to these sorts of things may have never gone through it themselves and thus just do not understand therefore their only advice is to seek medical help, which in the long run is the best advice they can give and still good advice!.

I hope you can see it though others eyes and sort of understand why they make the comments that they do and that this explanation helps a littleWww@Answer-Health@Com

And not everyone who starts smoking has a hard time stopping but people are different!. People with those disorders have a mental disorder, whether that person sees themselves as "disturbed" or not!. It's a compulsive behavior and cutting especially can lead to things like infection, and well anorexia immediately causes malnutrition and eventually death!. I think most people freak out about it because a lot of cutters do have an actual problem at the root of their behaviors, though many might not, and anorexia is something that IS serious, I mean are you kidding me!? You don't toy with what goes into your body, that can **** up a lot of internal stuff, organs will be screwed, so forth if you are malnourished!. Why not see a doctor and nip that disorder in the bud right there!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, you did what you did for a reason!. You may not see it, or understand it yourself!. The people that tell you to see a doctor don't understand it either!. Cutting can cause you health problems (infections, etc!.!.!.) and of course eating disorders can cause health problems!. Those are really hard things to get over and sometimes it just helps to talk to someone!. The people that tell you to see a doctor, think that it's the right thing to do, because they don't really know what to do!.
You sound like you are a smart girl and that you will work things out!.

Because people dont really understand what it is like, unless they have been there themselves!. for some people, yes, it is necessary to go and talk to a doctor and whatever, but for others, we do better treating ourselves and getting over our problems ourselves!. i was a cutter for 5 years and im slowly getting over it by myself *clean for 7 months!*!. i think it gives u more of a sense of accomplishment if you get over something on your own, but sometimes, it is necessary to get help!. but i know exactly what u mean when i read those posts!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's a dangerous coping mechanism, well, both are!. So many cutters wind up killing themselves by accident, cutting too deep!.
People with eating disorders screw up their bodies permanently!. I've been eating for 12 years and I still have digestive issues, my body can't tolerate many foods that I love!. TWELVE years after I got help!.
You have to learn how to make yourself feel better without being destructive!. Your body is a temple, it shouldn't be treated the way you're treating it!. It's literally a mental illness, and does need the help of a doctor!.
If you were REALLY okay, you wouldn't be cutting, starving yourself or puking all the time, now would you!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
