Write down the best & worst things that could result from the audition. If the worst result doesn't involve death or major injury to anyone you are in good shape. Another important tip: don't forget to BREATHE!! I wish you good luck & I congratulate you for attempting this. ( I couldn't get up in front of 10 strangers to recite my name & address..)

think about positive things and things that you love when you get nerouvs to get your mind off the situation at the time work on calming and breatheing techn.

Avoid heavy foods and try relax by taking a bath, reading in bed or listening to soft music. hope this helps.

Oh, I know just what you're talking about. I get severe performance anxiety and experience everything you describe: trembling, nausea, clammy forehead and hands. It's awful.

There are long-term solutions you can look into such as self-hypnosis, relaxation exercises, deep breathing. These can all work to a degree.

A faster way to deal with this is to see your doctor and ask for a prescription for propranolol (brand name Inderal in Canada). This is a short-acting, mild beta blocker that actually blocks the "fight-or-flight" adrenaline response that causes nervousness. I used it to get through a public speaking course in college (a must-have course) and to sing in a group for several years.

You take it about an hour before performance time and it lasts about 3 hours then starts to wear off. If you do decide to try this, I'd give it a test run before the audition to see how you respond to it. Of course your doctor would also have to evaluate whether it was a safe drug for you to take, based on other health considerations and any medications you might already be taking.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck with the audition!
