Anyone have success with Wellbutrin, the good and bad please?!

Question: Thanks any info would be great.

Answers: Thanks any info would be great.

I took it for depression a few years ago after trying pretty much everything else out there. When I first started it and about 1-2 weeks after, it made me feel a little dizzy and light-headed, especially after walking up a long flight of stairs or something like that. It also supressed my appetite for a week or so. All of those side effects were gone after 2-3 weeks.

The side effect that did NOT go away was anxiety. It was REALLY awful - came out of nowhere and hit me like a ton of bricks. Luckily I still had some klonazepam (tranquillizers) at home so I took half a tab here and there when I started getting really panicky. Anxiety is a common side effect of Wellbutrin, which is why you probably shouldn't take it all by itself (w/o tranquillizers) if you have issues with anxiety.

I will say, though, that Wellbutrin was the ONLY antidepressant that didn't mess with my sex drive. I love it for that!

The generic form does not work as well at the name brand. I know they tell you it's all the same thing, and I have found that to be true for most if not all other generics I have taken, but I can say for sure that the generic Wellbutrin does NOT work the same way. My psychiatrist told me that at least half the patients he has that tried the generic form said the same thing.

Wellbutrin was the only antidepressant I ever took that really worked. I was eventually diagnosed with adult ADD, however, and Wellbutrin is sometimes used to treat that so I wonder if that was part of it.

Best of luck to you!

I took it for awhile for depression. I have to say that it drove away my appetite, and it really made dealing with day to day BS much easier. I didn't get as upset, or mad about different things. Unfortunately, I didn't ever get exited either. I was at one, monochromatic emotion. Everything was.....eh. And man, it will give you the worst dry mouth ever. No matter HOW much I drank, I was always so thirsty!! I have a few friends who took it to stop smoking, and it seemed moderately successful. Especially for those who actually TRIED to stop smoking while they were on it. All in all, a good medicine with few side-effects, that are usually very mild. Oh yeah, and after I stopped taking it, I had wierd dreams for awhile.

I've been on it for several years and never noticed any side effects. I don't know how effective it is on its own because I'm bipolar, so I take it with a couple other meds. I can tell when I haven't taken it, though.

i m on it now i like it i can tell if i dont take it be careful with antidepressants there different with everyone however this one didn't cause much side effects a litte anxiety

i do not know if it is good or bad per say, but i do know that it is also marketed as zyba' used to quit smoking. i know that for quitting smoking it is very good. but one thing many doctors either don't know or don't realize, is that is you have a seizure disorder(such as epilepsy) you should not use Wellbutrin at all, it does cause major seizures. I suppest you discuss wellbutrin well with your doctor before you use it. There are many other effective medications for depression and quit smoking aides. Some are even better. Discuss your options with your doctor. But from everything I have heard about wellbutrin, sometimes the side effects can be worse than the depression. I personally have no experience as i do have epilepsy and can not use that.

I have been on it for three weeks now to help with motivation and I think it is helping.

I had to take it for a year and it did absolutely nothing for me.I kept asking the doctor if it was a placebo then I just quit taking it.Didn't notice anything different at all.
