Question: I have lots of depression/anxiety issues and I shouldnt be feeling like this..because I dont work (my fiancee does the working) and my "job" is to clean and cook...but I feel like I can never get anything done its like the laundry and dishes are piling up and I cant get my body to get up and do it! I feel like im drowning while everything just keeps building up. I am on 2 meds for my depression do I need them adjusted? whats wrong I cant take feeling like this...I feel useless but I try so hard to do stuff everyday

I would definitely say you need a med adjustment. I've suffered with depression and anxiety since I was a child and in the last five years or so in varying levels of severity. You DO NOT have to suffer.

Get to your doctor asap and get those meds adjusted (unless it's been under two weeks since your last adjustment--then you may want to call and see if you should wait a bit longer or come in). And, if you're not seeing a psychiatrist for the meds, please do so. GPs just aren't equipped to handle all the nuances.

I have the same issues you do with getting things done around here..and, believe me, the guilt doesn't help your recovery any, either. Ignore the people saying you need to go outside to work. As long as your fiancee has no problem with you being home, take advantage of the time to get the right meds at the right dosages and heal.

Good luck!

maybe finding a job would help you, you might need to get out and get away from home for a few hours and get things off you mind, i know that helped me.

Make your day fun. Reward yourself when you get your jobs done. Tell yourself that if you get everything around the house done that on Friday you can take yourself shopping...or out for coffee in the morning...or something like that. It sounds like you put so much of your time into doing things for your house and for your fiancee (which is great!), but you need some time alone for you. Even something as simple as setting aside one day to read a book you have been wanting to, or sitting down with a movie, or inviting a good friend over.

There are ways to make your "jobs" around the house more fun too, especially if no one else is at home. When I'm doing dishing I blare the music and dance around the kitchen singing into a spoon! It's crazy! But it's fun! And I work ten times faster when I'm at least having a little bit of a good time.

Evaluate your life. Make a list of all the things you are thankful for, all the things you like about yourself, and all the people you love. Put them in a place where you can see them everyday...like your bathroom mirror or on your refrigerator. Every time you see them you will realize how lucky, happy, and blessed you are to be YOU and to be living your life!

Put a smile on your face! Good luck!

I've been going thru the same thing with my wife for the past year. You may need your medication adjusted (that's for the Doctor to decide). I hope that you're also seeing a Therapist as well. This helped my wife a great deal.

Your Fiance needs to be supportive and help you around the house. If the housework isn't piling up, that would be a big help. Also consult your Doctor about exercise, vitamins and diet.

Good luck!

you sound alot like me right now..
I am on 2 meds for depression/anxiety as well...
I do work but only part time...my boyfriend pays all the bills...

You may need your meds adjusted..as do I.

Dear Heidi Anne,
You are not useless,See your Doctor as soon as possible.
I think you my dear have hit the nail on the head...............
You may need your medication adjusted,by your Doctor........
So you really have answered your own question.............
Have "FAITH" in yourself.................I have.......................S

Use guided imagery. Close your eyes and imagine yourself doing a load of dishes, or a load of clothes, or going to a job interview. Watch TV shows about de-cluttering and organizing your home.

A job might really improve your condition. Try volunteering at your local hospital, school or animal shelter. You can have more control over your schedule, and set realistic small goals for yourself. You need some structure in your life that will force you to get up out of bed and go somewhere. Your body needs excercise, and it needs to eat, sleep and be active on a schedule. You will feel much better if you can get back on a schedule.

Volunteering will also get you something to add to your resume, another source for a business reference, and may get your foot in the door with a possible employer.
