There are numerous therapy plans out there.

Common to many plans is taking a look at your history, at difficult and unresolved conflicts. As painful times are re-visited with the mind and emotions, it is possible to react to the old "wound" or "fear" or "anger" as if it were happening today.
Any number of symptoms can come to the surface, including physical pain, anxiety, grief, emotional distress, etc.

Such symptoms following therapy sessions could be viewed as "regression".

The purpose for a person seeking therapy might be that they are "stuck" in their abilities, performance, or relationships. Looking back at the past experiences, it is possible to pull out specific memories of when a person was deeply wounded, from which they have never healed. To re-visit the old wound, and to feel it again, gives a fresh opportunity to "work it through", resolving the old dilemma, and after processing their grief, anger, etc. - a brief time of regression - the person is able to close the door on their past wound, and able to step out of what had hindered them in their current life relationships.

I'm assuming that if you stop going to therapy you regress--it's a process...sometimes it takes years of therapy to make progress.

Hello ! without knowing what kind of therapy, its hard to say, there could be hundreds of reasons, but other then physical therapy, the most common reasons for regression are, you quit taking your meds, and lack of trust and faith in your therapist, in that case, you seriously need to find another therapist. If its physical therapy, the therapist can only do what your doctor orders them to do.Like in my case, my Dr. had them treat me for something hr thought was wrong, but he was wrong and I regressed, but lucky for me, my therapist questioned the Dr., tests were given, and the proper therapy worked. I hope this helps !
