A troll is someone who says something in an Internet forum that is so outrageous that it causes the whole forum to erupt into a big argument about nothing.
The result is that everyone is annoyed by the angry comments and even the troll himself is only mildly amused.
Since the result is a big argument instead any kind of real discussion or debate, all of the comments generated are as irritating as spam.
