Medication Question!!!!!! My doctor is stupid?!

Question: I think my doctor is stupid. I have anxiety but no depression (at least not severe, everyone has depression) so he is giving me antidepressants? I don't like it at all. He gave me Zoloft and now I don't have a sex drive and THAT makes me depressed! Is Zoloft even for anxiety?!?!! I'm thinking about changing doctors and just for future reference what are the RIGHT medications to treat anxiety?

The SSRI's (medications like Zoloft) are often used to treat anxiety.

However, we all are different. The sex drive thing happens to a lot of people.

I guess the best answer to your question is to say that you need a doctor that listens to you. Change doctors if you have that option and if you think it will help.

Good luck to you!

Many antidepressants are also used to treat anxiety. Zoloft is one of them.

Zoloft actually made my anxiety worse, but don't let that put you off, as everyone reacts differently to these medications.

Zoloft is one of the most common anti-depressants, also used for treating anxiety. However, it does have a strong indication of sexual side-effects. Try asking your doctor about switching to another type of anti-depressant that also treats anxiety without the side effects, such as Effexor. Good luck.

Many doctors won't prescribe benzos for run of the mill anxiety because of the dependence issue and because you build up a tolerance to them and they stop working after a few months. I was addicted to them for 5 years and getting off was hell. I don't have enough space to tell you all the trouble I have gotten myself into over benzos.

Work with your doctor. Doctors often prescribe antidepressants for anxiety and sometimes add an anti- anxiety medication. Everyone is different so often it takes trial and error to get the right combination for you. Zoloft obviously is not the medication for you as low sexual desire can be a side effect. Don't get anxious (bad joke), there are more antidepressants your doctor can try. I am a therapist, not a doctor, so I hesitate to name specific meds. It's hard to be patient when you are anxious but sometimes it takes a little time to get the right combo. Stick with it!

Any medications will have an effect on the sex drive. Anti-depressants are known to decrease the sex drive. I was in this situation and it's not pleasant. I tried everything from dieting to exercising to boost the libido but nothing worked. I tried a natural supplement meant for my problems I had which was called vigrx oil. It's basically a natural erection oil that gives an instant libido boost along with making one heck of a solid erection. It worked well and I perform A+ ever since. Read up about it at hughs-reviews.com where I saved on it at the time. Good luck and I hope this helps

Zoloft is one of several anti-depressant meds also used to treat anxiety. The side effects can be a problem, but the drug is appropriate..
