Suggestions on dealing with my bad sleeping pattern?!

Question: With the really really odd exception of last night, I generally don't get to sleep untill 3:30 in the morning at the ABSOLUTE earliest. sometimes I don't get to sleep untill 7am even.

I then sleep through to sometimes 12 or even 3 in the afternoon.
And when I wake up I feel like I've barely slept at all.

I have Bipolar Affective and my mood has been exceptionally low lately, but my sleep has been bad since before that so yea.. Ive tried to stay awake all night one night to go to sleep at about 8:30 the next night but If I stay up I still can't get to sleep until atleast 2 the next morning.

When my sleep was bad last time I was tried on Tamazepine but it did nothing for me. I was then put on Seroquel, but the hang over effect when I had major exams coming up I couldn't stay on it. I don't want to go back on Seroquel but I'm to the point I think I need something else to help.... What do you think?

There are websites that deal with sleep disorders--Try to find info by using google--I would suggest as a starting point this one:

http://www.talkaboutsleep.com

A friend with narcolepsy has gotten a lot of help from this site. Keep up your pursuit of an answer thru your care providers..Eventually something will help..Hang in there!!

I think you need to speak to someone about natural therapies. I know there are oils you can burn and even drops you can take that help the body relax and sleep.
I know trinature has an oil blend called Sweet Dreams, you can look up their website on www.trinature.com. I also use lavender to help me sleep.
I know what it is like to not sleep so I hope you find help soon.

Hi Kirra

Try taking a warm shower and if you have an ac in your room turn it up so the room is cold and cover up turn of the lights no radio, TV, and lay there until you fall a sleep. Do it early though like 8 or 9 o'clock and just wait it might take a few hours at first, but it will get easier. I have gone through the same thing many times and right now I am going through it, soon I will turn every thing off and lay in bed until I fall a sleep. for the last month or so I have been going to sleep between 4-6 o clock in the morning, and waking up around 8 or 9 o'clock in the morning. I average 4-5 hours of sleep a day for as long as I can remember, so I know how what you are going through.
Try the thing I wrote earlier, warm milk helps to.
Good luck and take care....Keep the Faith....PEACE....cya....

I think you might be my twin separated at birth.I couldn't describe it any better myself. I have tried all the meds, the trying to stay up all night and day to try and even out and nothing ever worked until a beautiful little over the counter pill called UNISOM.

I don't take one every night but they help you sleep at regular intervals and are very effective. I also don't notice any symptoms that aren't brushed away with half a cup of coffee.( I only allow myself that much caffeine a day.)
