Yes, another self-injury question?!

Question: OK, well I used to hurt myself and a couple months ago my mom found out and I got sent to a doctor and I don't do it anymore. However, I've got these ugly-*** scars all over the back of both my arms. I don't want to hide them, I've been wearing sweaters for nearly 7 months straight, and I'm tired of it. I don't want to use them anymore, but I don't want people to know of my past. What are some excuses I could use? Come on, serious answers, I'm not playing here.

i never get a chance to answer them because they don't ask! a couple of people noticed and immediatly asked me if i was cutting...very awkward especially since that persons mother talks to mine everyday. i've been wearing long sleeves...my friend knew something was up when they saw that. so i would also like to know what to say or do. i always think about it though and i was thinking animal scratches or something.

i dunno how bad the scars are, but if anyone asks, you could always tell a story how a few years ago, you were biking/rollerblading/skateboarding/etc. and you lost control, fell into some bushes, cut yourself up real bad, turns out you were allergic, and thats the reason the resulting scars are so bad.
Or just tell ppl you had an allergic reaction, and your skin had to be lacerated to release fluid. No one should want you to explain further on that one....

does vitamin e lotion help? tanning? make-up perhaps?

If you want to go with a story - accidents are always great. Especially if you "got the scars doing something that you normally do", like if you skateboard or something. Another way would be to tan so the scars blend better. Idk where you live and how bad the scars are so I'm not sure how well that would work but it works for my scars. You could also try some scar removal creams but tanning yields better results.

I dont know, i mean cutting has been so popular lately that most people don't really believe excuses.

I think its a good thing in a way for you as it has been for me... to see the stupid thing we've done and remember that its not worth it to ever do it again...

One excuse that worked for me is that I was carrying around a bunch of donuts (in plastic containers) at work and that the plastic melted onto my wrists.
BUT it only worked because at the time, there were only a few horizontal marks, which were burns rather than cuts... and it was the inside, not the back.
A previous answer mentioned falling into a bush. When i was 8 my father decided he didn't like the rose bushes in our front garden, so he cut them out, leaving the bushes on our front verandah.
I had the great luck of falling on them, and still have the scars all over my legs 8 years later.. so it's a great excuse.
Otherwise you could claim you were in a car accident a few years ago, that the windscreen shattered and that only your arms got cut coz you were wearing long pants and a hat, but a t-shirt. And that the reason you didn't tell anyone back then was that your mom was the driver at fault, and you didn't want it spread how crap a driver she is.
Good luck!

When people see my scars, I tell the truth. Most of the time they're so shocked by the honesty that they don't ask any further questions and it never comes up again.

If you do choose to try and cover it up with a lie, people will most likely be suspicious anyways, or you will get lost in them and get caught anyways. It's not so bad, people are not judgemental when they know the truth. Most of the time, they're emberassed for asking anyways.
