Paranoid Schizophrenia?!

Question: Does anyone here have it?
if so can you please tell me some incidents and your thoughts.
any info on symptoms would be really appreciated!!
they think my mom has it but no one is really telling me anything because they think im too young to hear about this stuff ( im 16) but i love my mom and i want to help her get better. I have always known that some of the things she would say were really out there. Like she would say that people are always out to get her, and that they are always starring at her and talking about her and laughing at her. ( they are really not, but she really believes that.) it gets really hard when she starts to not trust me thoughh, thats when i need help.

Thank you very much for your answers!

Your mother means you no harm. She isn't trying to treat you as a child she is just dealing with something and doesn't want you involved because I'm sure she is scared too. Just be there for her and don't involve yourself too much but let her get help and she will feel as though doctors are trying to get her but that is just one of the symptoms. I know you don't know me but trust me. Funny thing is I was thinking about my own mother right now and she has this, she hasn't been diagnosed but believe me she does and it was hard growing up with her. Just don't make fun of her and tell her that the doctors are trying to help her (if your family does get her any help). Help her understand this by researching people who have suffered with it and are now fine. I went through a bout of that myself and then I realized it wasn't right that I was paranoid for the silliest things and that lead me to get very depressed. I don't want to scare you but it is treatable. Pretty easy to treat especially if she can join a group therapy. To let her know she isn't alone and also try to research celebs that may have had this. Like that girl who played Lois Lane in the old Superman movies, she had it and she is much better now. Go to imdb to find out who she is. Feel free to write back if you want more info on my experiences.

Paranoid Schizophrenia

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Schizophrenia (SKITS-oh-FREEN-ee-uh)---one of the most damaging of all mental disorders---causes its victims to lose touch with reality. They often begin to hear, see, or feel things that aren't really there (hallucinations) or become convinced of things that simply aren't true (delusions). In the paranoid form of this disorder, they develop delusions of persecution or personal grandeur. The first signs of paranoid schizophrenia usually surface between the ages of 15 and 34. There is no cure, but the disorder can be controlled with medications. Severe attacks may require hospitalization.

Causes
The causes of schizophrenia are still under debate. A chemical imbalance in the brain seems to play a role, but the reason for the imbalance remains unclear. We do know that you're a bit more likely to become schizophrenic if you have a family member with the illness. Stress does not cause schizophrenia, but can make the symptoms worse.

Signs/Symptoms
Schizophrenia usually develops gradually, although onset can be sudden. Friends and family often notice the first changes before the victim does. Among the signs are:

Confusion
Inability to make decisions
Hallucinations
Changes in eating or sleeping habits, energy level, or weight
Delusions
Nervousness
Strange statements or behavior
Withdrawal from friends, work, or school
Neglect of personal hygiene
Anger
Indifference to the opinions of others
A tendency to argue
A conviction that you are better than others, or that people are out to get you
Care
Drugs such as Thorazine, Haldol, and Risperdal combat symptoms in 4 out of 5 patients. An acute attack usually can be cleared up in 4 to 8 weeks. Counseling and group therapy help recovering patients to understand the disease and to function effectively.

Risks
Without medication and therapy, most paranoid schizophrenics are unable to function in the real world. If they fall victim to severe hallucinations and delusions, they can be a danger to themselves and those around them

This is a really hard question. Obviously you love your Mother very much, and are very concerned. We cannot know what is going on
in your Mother's life, how much is her perceptions, and how much
is for real, and something you don't know about. People do
have enemies, we know that, but they are not everyone. Everyone
cannot be out to get us. I don't know how old your Mom is. It could be
she is depressed, anxious, menopausal, having raging hormones
and a lot of stress. All this combined is a pretty heavy load, if she
feels she has no friends, it is really tough. If you know anyone
who could get her to go to the medical doctor and get a referral
to a counsellor, it could be a start. There are new meds that
do not have the side effects of older meds. Don't jump to the
conclusion that she is paranoid schizophrenic, dont do that name
calling rot. Stick to the problems, not calling names.. Many people are
very suspicious of others without being paranoid. However, being
suspicious of eveyone can make you miserable. Did something
really bad happen to her, something she couldn't get over? All
these things need to be discussed by her with someone she trusts. Sounds like
she needs a good physical examination to rule out physical problems.
and then some counselling, maybe she could make some friends
and develop a support system to deal with these feelings.

Jenna tough luck . My mum has this too and i m 17 so i know what u r going through.
u have described very well what it is. My mum does the same thing. SHe things our relatives like my aunts and uncles evil bad people. they wanna harm her and our family ie kill us. they wanna see us miserable etc
and she has forbidden me to talk to them but she constantly thinks i m talking to them when i have not for a whole month.
she getss fits of rages and starts shouting and swearing, sometimes crying

All u can do i would say is be patient with her and tolerate her. Do whatever she wants and asks u to do
Thats all u can do

i hope she recovers i know how tough it can be

Ah, my uncle has it. It's pretty scary to live with.

I suggest going to webmd.com and doing a search there
also about.com

and a general google.com search of paranoid schizophrenia. It'll come up with a lot of information that'll help and even forums that you can go on to speak with families that deal with it.

Good luck, I know it's hard to deal with but she'll be okay once she gets treatment, it'll get a lot better for her.

It does seem like your mom has a form of schizophrenia I am not sure if it is necessarily paranoid schizpphrenia but I think she should go and see a psychiatrist as well and be properly diagnosed with the condition. Also there are medications for this.A lot of schizophrenic people also hear voices, see things that are not really there, they also hallucinate and tend to get angry quicker,The emotions also can be happy, sad or they can be argumentative as well.It is difficult that when a parent does not trust you though I hope you know that your mom has a disorder and she doesn't mean it. Remember she does love you and always will.Once she gets her help I am hoping your mom will be the mom she has always been.Good luck!
