What works for anxiety other than cigarettes?!

Question: I have been diagnosed with GAD and bipolar 2. I typically control myself through meditation, diet, exercise, and herbal supplements and this works relatively well. I don't have insurance, so I can't go that route.

I am quitting smoking again and the last time I quit smoking I tore up my face and felt really suicidal. I knew it was just the cravings but it was INSANE. Needless to say I went back to smoking. I am quitting again - and I KNOW I can do it. Tomorrow morning is the big day.

I am using commit this time (the lozenges) which helped a LOT with the cravings last time. What are some tips I can use for the mood swings and most specifically the rage and depression this time?

THANK YOU :)

Chewing gum, even if its not the nicotine gum. I chew like a package of gum every 3 days, one daily if im feeling a ot of anxiety. Try the sugar-free type because sugar can cause more mood swings

try to use the gum, it will help with the cravings and food intake. also, there is an anti depressant that can help with it too. when your craving it or want to reach for it grab a lollipop or something. good luck.

Good for you, making healthy choices. I wish you well.
When my friends have quit smoking they replaced the smoking behavior with something pleasant like a hot cup of tea. They would also go for a walk around the block when the urge would come up.
To help stabilize your mood, I'd be careful with herbal supplements with your medication. Sometimes they can have some interactions. Diet is very important as you probably know especially keeping the caffeine minimal.
I wish you well with your healthy choices.

Bless you.

The only advice I can give you is to check out a site called quitnet.com. It's wonderful for online support, and they have a special board for people who have the additional issue of mental or emotional problems. It's basically user-run, with quitters helping other quitters, and smokers who are planning to quit. I can't say enough good things about the site.

I used it a lot when I was just-quit. And whatever you go through there, there is always someone who knows what you're going through.

The trick is to get through *today* without smoking. As they say, it's hard by the yard, but it's a cinch by the inch.

There is also a great free hypnosis video on youtube for quitting smoking. But seriously think about hitting a clinic that bills you on a sliding scale. Usually a county mental health place is very friendly, they give out free meds and samples galore! People really are happy to help you.... check it out... Oh yeh, nicotine anonymous is great too. And free.

My friends younger brother smokes weed. It seems to work really well for him.
